Alta Thurman

Funeral services for Alta Thurman, age 88, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011, with Rev. Patrick Gernenz officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, with Dyon Purdy. Weldon Killingsworth, Richard Bryan, Ron Bryan, Jim Purdy and Paul Reazin serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 14, 2011 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.

Alta Thurman passed away Tuesday morning, January 11, 2011 at Hospice Home Place of Tyler. She was born in Hale Center on May 20, 1922, the daughter of A. K. Williams and Hester (Hill) Williams. She married Paul Thomas Thurman in Kaufman on June 10, 1939. He preceded her in death in 2008. Mrs. Thurman was a retired office clerk for Lone Star Gas Company and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pickton.

Survivors include: daughter, Paulette Purdy and husband, C. J., of Winnsboro; son, Bruce Thurman of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Cherri and Weldon Killingsworth and Dyon and Lindsey Purdy and great-grandchildren, Tanner and Trevor Killingsworth and Drake Purdy. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
