Barbara Helton Cotten

Visitation for Barbara Helton Cotten, age 74, of Como, Texas will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Mrs. Cotten passed away in Kilgore, Texas on Monday, May 19, 2025.

Barbara Cotten was born on November 29, 1950 in Commerce, Texas to Oscar “Shorty” and Ivy (Fox) Helton. She married Herbert Cotten on August 11, 1989. When Barbara was a young girl one of her favorite things to do was playing in the cotton field while her parents were at work. She also loved to travel and explore new places as a young adult. She was happiest when she was outside. Whether it was working in her garden or mowing with her riding lawn mower. Although her favorite things of all time were watching her grandsons in the pool and watching her dogs play outside. She also enjoyed shopping. Barbara was a very loving and caring daughter, mother, wife, and nana. She devoted her life to her family and would not have had it any other way. Barbara was a member of the St. Lukes Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert Cotten of Como, TX; daughter, Lori Whitworth and husband, Anthony of Kilgore, TX; stepchildren, Tim Cotten and wife, Teresa, Troy Cotten and wife, Sherry, and Tracey Blair and husband, Chirs; grandsons, Jake Whitworth of Virginia and Josh Whitworth of Kilgore, TX; numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Chris Borden; parents, Shorty and Ivy Helton of Commerce, Texas; siblings, Billy Helton of Commerece, TX, Lovella Horton of Commerce, TX, Elizabeth Bishop of Fairley, TX, Margie Marks of Lancaster, TX, J.W. Helton of Dickenson, TX, Faye Gestes of Colorado Springs, CO, and a host of precious nieces and nephews.
