Funeral Services for Bernie Murrey, age 78, of Cumby will be conducted at Cross County Cowboy Church, at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 30, 2010, with Rev. Steven Leach officiating. A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, will follow at Cumby Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Cody Pierce, Sr., Cody Pierce, Jr., Doug Oldham, Norman Olsen, Jerry Jeter and Ryan Pierce. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at Cumby Funeral Home.
Bernie Murrey passed away Monday morning, September 27, 2010 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Fort Worth, on August 1, 1932, the son of Buren Murrey and Vera Daphine (Barbee) Murrey. He married Catherine Joyce Jordan Cozzens, in Sulphur Springs on May 22, 1981; she survives. Mr. Murrey was retired from the United States Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam war. He was a member of the Cross Country Cowboy Church.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Shirley Oldham and husband, Doug, of North Richland Hills; two sons, Jordan Cozzens and wife, Donna, of Cumby and Jeff Murrey and wife, Marlynn, of Dallas; one sister, Barbara Olsen of Dallas; grandchildren, Cody Pierce, Ryan Pierce, Jordana Cozzens, Isabella Cozzens, Travis Cozzens, Daniel Murrey, Matthew Murrey and Benjamin Murrey and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
