Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, from 1:00–2:00 p.m., at the church. Betty passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2025, in Garland, Texas.

Born on April 8, 1932, in the small town of Tira, Texas, Betty Sue was the beloved daughter of Valton Bertis Chapman and Jenny Mae Mildred (Horn) Chapman. She grew up in the close-knit community of Tira, where she later married the love of her life, Carl Walter Johnson, on July 21, 1951, in the very church where her life will be celebrated.

Betty spent many years working at Lone Star Gas, but her favorite role was being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her greatest joy was always found at home, surrounded by family. She had a special gift in the kitchen, especially when it came to baking something sweet to share. Her love for singing and playing the piano was another passion in her life. Betty had a deep love for beauty, and nothing made her smile more than a fresh bouquet of red roses—her favorite flower. She was known by all who met her as one of the most positive, joyful women you could ever have known.

Betty truly lived each day to the fullest, embracing life with a thankful heart. Her love for life and for people was evident in every conversation and every warm hug she gave. Betty never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She had a quick wit, a wonderful sense of humor, and a natural gift for storytelling that could light up any room. Whether sharing a funny memory, a heartfelt lesson, or a little mischief from days gone by, she had a way of making people laugh and feel right at home. A woman of strong faith and a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Cedar Hill, Texas, Betty's joyful spirit and unwavering kindness reflected the love of Christ she carried in her heart.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter-in-law, Sandy Johnson of Rockwall; granddaughters, Stacey Hailey and husband Charles, Stephanie Skipper and husband Joe, Shelby Bouton and husband Nick, and Morgan Newsom and husband Kyle; great-grandchildren, Arianna, Karlie, Fallon, Paxton, Kynlee, Kyleigh, Cami, Kolin, Everly, and baby Bouton on the way; her sisters, Gae Lou Haley and husband Doug of Crowley, and June Elizabeth Vessel of Kaufman; along with many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Betty is now reunited in Heaven with her parents, Valton and Mildred Chapman, husband, Carl Walter Johnson; her beloved son, Gregory Don Johnson; and her brother-in-law, Jerry Vessel.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
