Cullum Otto Hillis

Funeral service for Cullum Otto Hillis, age 84 of Sulphur Springs, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs with Paul Crites and Adam Teer officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeway Cemetery with Jarred Sutton, Clay Thatcher, MacKenzie Hillis, Chris Ramirez, Mitchell Walker, and Tom Brown serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Mr. Hillis passed away at Rock Creek Health and Rehabilitation on Monday, June 30, 2025.

Cullum Otto Hillis was born on February 28, 1941 in Blackwell, Texas to Alvin Burton and Freida Dorothy Mae (Friebel) Hillis. He married Theresa Marr in Quinlan, Texas on June 12, 1970, she passed on June 1, 1988. He then married Judy James in Sulphur Springs, Texas on July 20, 1990. Cullum worked at E-Systems/L3 for 37 years. He served as a Deacon at the Church of Christ in Quinlan and was a song leader at the Church of Christ in Sulphur Springs.

Cullum is survived by his wife, Judy Hillis of Sulphur Springs; daughter, Khristy Santjer (Eric) of Sulphur Springs; son, Alvin Eugene Hillis (Sarah); daughter, Melinda Hillis of Sulphur Springs; son, Paul Crites (Neomi) of Brunswick, Georgia; daughter, Sarah Dennison (Travis) of Anchorage, Alaska; son, Richard Clay Thatcher of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Shelby Walker (Mitchell), Jarred Sutton, Morgan Ramirez (Chris), Dakota Hillis, Sierra Hillis, MacKenzie Hillis (Joanna), Madison Robertson, Macie Robertson, Naomi Crites, John Paul Crites, Eliza Dennison, Aquila Dennison, Kinnadiee Thatcher, Ty Thatcher, and Evan Thatcher; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Joe Hillis, Bennie Hillis, Ruby Atkins, Lennie Sharrow, Neva Yarbrough, Dorothy Shields, Minnie Reagor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Freida Hillis; wife, Theresa; and siblings, Wade Hillis, Henry Hillis, Rodney Johnson, Iva Haren, Johney Hillis, and Winona Forbes Yates.
