E.M. Thompson

Funeral services for E.M. "Jody" Thompson, age 83, of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at League Street Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 12, 2010, with Buddy Wiggins, John Barkley and Dan Hammitt officiating. A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Argenbright, Laurence Bramblett, Dr. Jim Tully, Kevin Wilkes, Blake Payne, Cody Strate, Travis Strate and Jim Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be be elders at League Street Church of Christ. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
"Jody" Thompson passed away at Carriage House Manor Friday morning, December 10, 2010. He was born in Peoria, Texas on October 12, 1927, the son of Edwin McKinney Thompson, Sr. and Velma Minnie (Dumas) Thompson. He married Bobbie Hassell on October 16, 1948 in Dallas; she survives. Mr. Thompson was a retired school administrator for Brazosport I.S.D. He was a member of League Street Church of Christ where he served as an elder and he served in the United States Navy.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Lynne Payne and husband, Paul, of Talpa and Gayla Strate and husband, Bob, of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Christie Fleetwood, Blake Payne, Cody Strate and Travis Strate and great-grandchildren, Dawnya Smith, Elodie Strate, Gabriel Strate and Emma Grace Strate. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Memorial and/or Medina Children's Home, 21300 State Highway 16N, Medina, Texas 78055.
