Funeral services for Essie Davis Smith, age 83, of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel, at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2010, with Rev. Chalmer Dennis officiating. Interment will follow at City Cemetery, with Wesley Chester, Glenn Sawyer, Ricky Williams, Donald Bunch, William Tubbs, Bobby Foley, Lee Dennis and Lester Phillips serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 5, 2010 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Essie Davis Smith passed away Thursday morning, November 4, 2010. She was born in Montgomery, Alabama, on August 30, 1927, the daughter of Nuton Johnson and Sylvania (Swanner) Johnson. She married David Wilson Davis. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Smith was a retired cook and a member of Bibleway Lighthouse Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Beth Bunch and husband, James, of Sulphur Springs, Linda Riggins and husband, Neal, of Duncanville; two sons, Weldon Davis and wife, Darlene, of Dallas, John Davis of Eullas; brother, Elmer Johnson and wife, Jane, of Seven Points; grandchildren, Johnny Harvey, David Harvey, Debbie Davis and Tammy Webb; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son, David Earl Davis; sister, Christine Burns and grandson, Michael Webb.
