Gilbert Petty

A graveside service for Gilbert E. Petty will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Brashear Cemetery with Rev. Randy Stracener officiating. No formal visitation is scheduled.
Gilbert E. Petty passed away at Sunny Springs Nursing Home Wednesday, March 23, 2011. He was born in Hopkins County, on November 16, 1926, the son of Thomas Leonard Petty and Lillian (Harrison) Petty. He married Oleta Stracener in Hopkins County in 1947. She preceded him in death in 2008. Mr. Petty was a dairy farmer and a member of Divide Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors include: son: Elston Petty of Sulphur Springs; two sisters, Brenda Dodd of Brashear and Diana Whittle of Sulphur Springs; two grandchildren, Jason Petty and Craig Petty and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Petty; six brothers, Artis Petty, Max Petty, Cecil Petty, Willard Petty, Tommy Petty and Lavon Petty and one sister, Wanda Malone.
