Harrison Yount, 96, passed away Thursday, July 28th. He has been a resident of Sulphur Springs since 1972. He was born on a farm in Harrison County Iowa on Sept. 4th, 1914. On March 7th, 1936 he married La Rhea Bonita (Bonnie) Head in Omaha Nebraska. She preceded him in death on Oct. 2nd, 1978 after 42 years of marraige. A daughter, Marland Sue Powers, also preceded him in death in 1971 .
He is survived by 2 daughters, Sherry Gann of the home, & Sandra Lay & husband Terry of Bonita Beach, FL. Five grandchildren; Dayna Moss of Greenville, Rondi Bowlin & husband Mark of Hayden Colorado, Donnie Fulton of California, Sandy (Sam) Hodges of Sulphur Springs, & Kenny Cowan & wife Kathleen of Mansfield Texas. Also Nine Great Grandchildren & Eight Great Great Grandchildren. Another Great grandchild & Great great grandchild are on the way. As Harry always said, the hits keep on coming !
Harry graduated from Omaha Technical High School at age 16. He retired after 34 years as an Air Traffic Control Specialist. He was commander of a Civil Air Patrol Squadron involved in Search & Rescue for 5 yrs. He also taught classes to Civil Air Patrol Cadets on Meteorology, Navigation, & Civil Air Rules. He was a Charter Member of the Society of Airway Pioneers, an organization of Federal Employees who were involved in the establishment and/or operation of U.S. Airways and Air Traffic Control Facilities.
He & Bonnie loved to travel in their motor home, spending many winters in South Texas. He also loved gardening, fishing, & cooking. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs. His humor, wisdom, & gentle nature will be greatly missed by friends & family.
Visitation will be Monday from 6 - 8pm at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. The Service will be on Tuesday at 2pm at the First United Methodist Church, followed by internment at Rest Lawn Cemetary.
