Funeral services for James Parker, age 77 of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 10, 2011 at Wesley United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Ridgeway Cemetery, with Mike Parker, Logan Thurman, Robert Stout, Shorty Nelson, Dennis Jordan, Wayne Bledsoe and Seth Stout serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be David Robinson, Spencer Hinkle and Men of Wesleyan Sunday School Class. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
James Parker passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 7, 2011 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Oakland, Texas on February 13, 1934, the son of Oliver Freeman Parker and Carrie (Ferrell) Parker. He married Sandra Joan Stewart in McKinney on June 12, 1954; she survives. He was a retired United States postal worker and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Tina Stout and husband, Robert and Didi Thurman and husband Logan, all of Sulphur Springs; brother Bobby Parker of Como and grandchildren, Seth Stout, Tyler Stout, Mattie Thurman, Allie Thurman and Spencer Thurman. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Benny Parker. Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 614 Texas Street, Sulphur Springs, Texas 75482.
