Funeral services for James R. "Bobby" Reed Jr., age 83, of Sulphur Springs, longtime resident of Sweetwater, will be held at League Street Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 25, 2010, with Buddy Wiggins and Bob Strate officiating. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m., June 26, 2010 at Sweetwater City Cemetery with Kevin VandenBerge, Michael Williams, Casey Reed, Coby Reed, Jody Thompson, and Wes Broumley, serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
James R. "Bobby" Reed Jr. passed away at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital Wednesday evening, June 23, 2010. He was born in Sylvester on August 5, 1926, the son of Robert and Velma Smith Reed. He married Muriel Laree Field in Roby on December 26, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1999. He was a retired farmer and cattleman and also owned a Texaco service station. He also was a member of Fourth & Elm Street Church of Christ where he served as a deacon and served in World War II in the United States Navy.
Survivors include: sons, Mack Reed, and wife, Bridget, of Sulphur Springs and Randy Reed, and wife, Darla, of Sulphur Springs; brother, Billy Wayne Reed, of Roby; grandchildren, Kimberly & Michael Williams, Keri & Dr. Kevin VandenBerge, Casey & Robin Reed, and Coby Reed; great-grandchildren, Darby & Reed Williams, Kooper, Koen, & Krew VandenBerge, Lauren, Luke, and Landry Reed, and Zoe Reed.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Bowen and one brother, Harold Reed.
