J.L. Harred

Graveside service for J.L. Harred, age 90, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Nelta Cemetery with Toney Hurley and Jack Harred officiating and Montana Hurley, Kenny Crowson, Charles Murray, Derrek Harred, Darron Harred, and Rodney Harred serving as pallbearers. John McLane, Wayne Henegar, Larry Jay Temples, Mark Worley, Dr. Ronald T. Stanley, and Richard Patterson serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Mr. Harred peacefully passed away at his residence on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

J.L. Harred was born on February 5, 1936, in Birthright, Texas, to the late Clarence and Lizzie (Bradshaw) Harred. He married Patricia (Baldridge) Harred in Ridgeway, Texas, on October 18, 1963. J.L. was a lifelong sports enthusiast whose love for athletics began during his years at high school, where he played both baseball and basketball before graduating in 1956. Following graduation, he began his career with Cannon Craft, where his strong work ethic and dedication led him to rise through the ranks to become Plant Manager. He faithfully served the company from 1956 until his retirement in 1992. After retirement, he continued working at Master’s True Value Western Store until the business closed. J.L. was a proud member of Masonic Lodge #221 and attained the rank of Third-Degree Master Mason. His passion for sports extended beyond playing, as he devoted many years to coaching and officiating baseball and basketball games. He remained an avid sports fan throughout his life. In his leisure time, J.L. enjoyed bird hunting and reading. A man of deep faith, he was a lifelong member of Independence Baptist Church. His dedication to his family, faith, community, and the sports he loved will be remembered by all who knew him.

J.L. is survived by his wife, Patrica Harred; son, Jack Harred and Wendy; daughter, Nikki Hurley and husband Toney; grandchildren, Shelbi Hurley, Montana Hurley and Ellikate, Caitlyn Way and husband Caden, Megan Briggs and husband Brian; sister-in-law, Barbara Hammond; great-grandchild, Jackson Way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, G.W. (Bub) Harred; sisters, Alice Simmons, Jean Brollier, and Mary Hammond.
