J.L. Middleton, age 87, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, peacefully passed away at his residence on Friday, June 12, 2026.
J.L. Middleton was born on July 26, 1938, in Point, Texas, at his home to the late J.L. Sr. and Ruby (Spencer) Middleton. J.L. proudly served his country in the United States Navy and later retired from Rockwell International after many years of dedicated work. Following his retirement, he founded Middleton’s Painting, where he built a reputation for quality craftsmanship through residential painting and a variety of other projects. J.L. was known throughout the area for his remarkable skill as a tool sharpener. As the only tool sharpener within an 80-mile radius, he could sharpen nearly anything brought to him, even a pair of nail clippers if needed. An avid outdoorsman, J.L. had a deep passion for crappie fishing. Few things brought him greater joy than spending time on the water, except for the time he spent with his beloved grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life.
J.L. is survived by his son, Luke Middleton; daughters, Tanya Potts, Tammy Lebo; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Nora Younger, and Doris Hall.
