Graveside service for Joe Don Shelton, age 74, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Aiguier Cemetery in Birthright with Craig Shelton officiating and Michael Borden, Jeremy Shelton, Johnathon Shelton, Craig Shelton, Jeff Smith, and Ronnie Wolfe serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Joe Don Shelton, born March 4, 1952, passed away on April 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and simple joys that brought him lasting happiness.
Joe married the love of his life, Barbara Diann, on January 11, 1971, at the courthouse in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, Texas. Together, they built a life centered on family, commitment, and shared memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hazel Shelton; his brother, John Edward Shelton; his sister, Debbie Borden; and his infant sister, Linda Shelton.
Joe is survived by his siblings: Jeannie Wright, Brenda Stockton, Jerry Shelton, and Barbara Espinosa. He is also survived by his beloved children, Charles Shelton and wife Michelle, and Joseph Shelton and wife Annette. He was a proud grandfather to Courtney, Eli, Macy, Landry, and Riley, all of whom brought him immense joy.
Joe dedicated many years of his life working for Union Pacific Railroad before retiring in 2012. In retirement, he found happiness in the simple things—fishing, tending to his garden, and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his steady presence, his love for his family, and the quiet way he made life better for those around him.
Joe Don Shelton will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
