Funeral services for Joe Stephens, age 80, of Hopkins County, are scheduled for 2:00PM Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at First Baptist Church Yantis with Rev. David Bagwell officiating. Interment will follow at Yantis Cemetery with Larry Don Deas, Charlie Teague, Wilbur Cummings, Don C. Spencer, Adam Dean, and Ben Dean serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Murray Orwosky Funeral Home from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
Joe Pickney Stephens was born August 23, 1929 in Taylor County, Texas the son of F.H. Stephens and Maudie McCoy. He married Peggy Sewell in Hereford, TX on June 9, 1954. She survives. He was a mason 32nd degree and a Shriner. He was a member of Yantis First Baptist Church. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include daughters, Cheryl Dean, and husband, Delbert, of Cleveland, Mississippi, Tonya Spencer, of Greenville, TX; brother, James R. Stephens, of Denver, CO; sister, Alma Bond, of Waxahachie, TX; grandchildren, Treva Spencer, Ben Dean, Joseph Dean, Don Spencer, Angela Bryant, Adam Dean, Tristan Clamon, Lauren Dean; great-grandchildren, Madelyn Bryant, Landon Bryant, Addyson Bryant, Anna Kate Bryant, Samuel Dean, Christopher Spencer, Lynzie Spencer, Evan Clamon. He was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Stephens.
