June Matthews

A graveside service for June Matthews, age 84, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 23, 2010, at City Cemetery, with Rev. B. J. Teer officiating. There will be no formal visitation.

June Matthews passed away at her residence on Tuesday, December 21, 2010. She was born on June 1, 1926, in Hopkins County, the daughter of Sam Barrett and Nellie (Butler) Barrett. She married Odell Benson Matthews. He preceded her in death in 1988. Mrs. Matthews was a retired seamstress for H. D. Lee Company and she was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: four sons, Odell Matthews, Jr. of Forney, Charlie Matthews of Cumby, Bobby Matthews and Gary Matthews, both of Sulphur Springs; daughter, Sandra Edwards of Sulphur Springs; three sisters, Ruby Smith, Merle McCarthy, both of Sulphur Springs and Wanda Alexander of Sherley; brother, Weldon Barrett of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Chandra Calvin, Brian Matthews, Mickey Matthews, Brady Matthews, Michael Matthews, Kevin Matthews, Nathan Matthews, Kim Jones, Wesley Matthews, Jennifer Edwards, Tommy Matthews and Nikki Matthews and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Matthews and Randall Matthews; three brothers, Loyd Thomas, Bill Barrett and Walter Barrett and sister, Lillian Carpenter.
