Katherine Anne Kingsolver, age 71, passed away at her home in Aubrey, Texas, on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
Katherine Kingsolver, lovingly known as Kathy, was born on January 25, 1954, in Globe, Arizona, to George and Hazel (Dixon) Shugart. She married Mark Jarrett Kingsolver in Lawton, Oklahoma, on October 23, 1977. Kathy obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1976, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She began working at The Lawton Constitution where she met Mark. Kathy and Mark had three sons while living in the Oklahoma City and Dallas areas, then moved to the Boston and Atlanta metro areas, before settling back in Dallas where they lived for nearly 20 years.
After many years as a stay-at-home mother, Kathy returned to her career where she worked for several faith-based organizations, including John Maxwell Leadership Center and A. Larry Ross Communications, where she provided copy editing and administrative support. In addition to her career, Kathy conducted mission work in Africa with World Neighbors and served as a Stephen Minister with Custer Road United Methodist Church. Kathy and Mark retired to the Houston area for several years before moving back to Dallas-Fort Worth two years before she passed away.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, George and Hazel Shugart; her brother, Kenneth Shugart; and her baby sister, Karen Shugart. Kathy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Mark Kingsolver; her son, Matthew Kingsolver and his wife Amy and their two sons Jarrett and Jake; her son, Scott Kingsolver and his wife Stephanie and their daughter Evelynn and son Truett; her son, Austin Kingsolver and his wife Kali; her brother, John Shugart and his wife Donna; her sister, Judy Clarke as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Immediately following the service there will be a reception in the Community Room.
