Mabel Clifton

Funeral services for Mabel LaVonia "Nanny" Clifton, of Sulphur Springs, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jim Tomlinson and Rev. Michael Coker will officiate.

Burial will follow services in the Mt. Sterling Cemetery, with Jeff Matthews, Reese Harley, Jeff Orwosky, Hans Wakeman, Sammy Clifton, and Howard Griggs serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbeareres will be Ned Ball and Harold Ball.

Visitation will be from 6:00 t0 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 11, 2008, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Clifton passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. She was born in Sulphur Bluff, on January 29, 1920, the daughter of Roy and Eva Mae Rush McCann. She grew up around Sulphur Springs. She moved to Roswell, New Mexico, in 1944, with her family. She moved back to Sulphur Springs in 1963, where she lived until her death. She married Orvil Clifton, in Sulphur Springs, on September 18, 1943. He preceded her in death in 1977.

Mrs. Clifton was a homemaker and a member of North Liberty Baptist Church. She like spending time with her family, crocheting, and going to church activities.

Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-laws, Jacke and Travis Miller, of Dike, and Eva and T.D. Potter, of Sulphur Springs; a daughters-in-law, Ann Clifton, of Como and Kate Brown of Roswell, NM; a brother, Cecil McCann, Pastura, NM; two sisters-in-law, Gerry McCann of Roswell, NM and Betty McCann of Canyon Lake, Texas; three grandchildren, LaNera Matthews, Linda Morgan, and Tonya Hurley; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Matthews, Ashley Matthews, Cameron Matthews, Tristin Morgan, and Lani Hurley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Roy D. Clifton and Orvan Gene Clifton; a grandson, Troy Potter; three infant sisters, Ola, Dola, and Dimple Ruth McCann; and two brothers, Billy F. McCann and A.J. McCann.
