Martha Margret (Marge) was born on August 14, 1927 in Dustin, Oklahoma to Earl and Opal (Self) Ponder. A real country girl, she grew up a tomboy and went hunting and fishing with her daddy often. She was his “ears.” Slept under the stars with her sisters in the same bed. She married Markie George Barnett in June 1945 and was married for over 63 years. She said he was the most handsome man she had ever seen. They had only one daughter, Christy Lee on November 23, 1954. As a Methodist, she taught Sunday School. Marge was a stay-at-home mom until Christy went to school in the earl 60’s. She then worked as a restaurant in downtown Plano, shortly after that, began her career at Texas Transformer. She was a lead supervisor over the winding department for over 25 years. Marge and Mark built their retirement home in Kiowa, OK. She took care of her mother until death at 95 years old. She always had the most beautiful yard filled with flowers and kitty cats. Her excellent gardening skills also included the most wonderful tomatoes. She loved being outside in nature. For the indoors, crocheting and sewing were done to perfection. As a lover of jewelry and antiques, she had quite the collection of both. She loved cornbread and sweet milk, fried potatoes, anything with chocolate and Rocco. She always had dessert. But her favorite thing was her family. She loved living near her sisters, brother and niece, Earlene in her later years in Kiowa. They were all very close. She was the last survivor of her immediate group. A beloved mother and caring and loving aunt. She will truly be missed.
