Rickey "Papa" Orr

Funeral services for Rickey “Papa” Orr, age 68, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Cory Simpson officiating. Interment will follow at Mahoney Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Riley Orr, Ryen Orr, Brandon Mitchell, Brandon Owens, Casey Owens, Matt Mitchell, Rex Highfield, and Heath Highfield. Honorary pallbearers will include Marc Mitchell, Mike Mitchell, and J.K. Stokes. Visitation will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Mr. Orr passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

Rickey Orr was born on January 18, 1957, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to John Orr, Jr. and Kathleen Morgan Orr. He married Kay Mitchell on December 11, 1976, in Sulphur Springs. A graduate of Sulphur Springs High School, Rickey worked for many years at Southern Optical and later as a Manufacturing Supervisor at Winzen Film. He was known as “Papa” to his grandchildren and will be remembered for his love of family and quiet strength.

Rickey was an avid hunter and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He had a rare and remarkable ability to truly listen and be present with the people in his life — a quality that made everyone around him feel heard and valued. His steady presence and unwavering support were the foundation of his family, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

Rickey is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kay Orr; his sons, Rick Orr and wife Katy of Austin, and Mitch Orr and wife Jennifer of Pflugerville; grandchildren, Olivia, Julia, Ryen, Riley, and Jayley Orr; and his sister, Kathy Ann Rudd.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Orr; his brother, Don Murray Orr; his sister, Karla Gayle Orr; his maternal grandparents, Murray and Inez Morgan; his paternal grandparents, John P. and Daisy Orr; and his nephew, Jody Mitchell.
