Sandra Taylor, age 90 of Sulphur Springs, Texas passed away on June 15, 2025 at Sunny Springs Nursing and Rehab.
Sandra was born on November 24, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to Howard W. and Antoinette Rose (Sheldon) Phillips. Sandra graduated from Denby High School in Detroit, Michigan. She went on to graduate from Western Michigan University, earning her Teaching degree. Her love of education and for children led to teaching 3rd and 4th graders in Dundee, Michigan. She occasionally brought her own preschool son to class just to observe the older kids and enjoy the classroom experience. Her students adored her. To stay closer to her home and family she became a substitute teacher in the Ann Arbor public school system. She raised her children (and husband) on the gourmet dishes she discovered on PBS cooking shows and as she acquired a library of cookbooks. (Vichyssoise, Moussaka, Gazpacho. The list goes on.) She was superintendent of the elementary Sunday school classes at the family’s “second home”: Zion Lutheran Evangelical Church. She was integral to the yearly VBS programs, being sure to load the car with neighbor kids who might not usually go to church. Sandy became an important part of the Zion church office, working there for 15 years. Sandy accepted a job at the University of Michigan and worked there for over 20 years until she retired in 2003 and moved to Texas to be with her family. Sandra was (appropriately) a huge Michigan Wolverines fan. Sandra loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Sandra never met a stranger and would visit with anyone. Make eye contact…you’d be in for a conversation.
She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Ferguson and husband, Chris; son, Christopher Taylor; grandchildren, Logan Taylor and Skylar Taylor; brother, Roger Phillips; great grandson Jude Taylor as well as numerous precious cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; father of her children, Larry Taylor; son, Mark Taylor; and sister, Barbara Masinick.
Finally, she would like you to know that she is having a reunion with the aforementioned beloved and would love for you to join her one day in the company of our Lord and Savior, our champion, Jesus Christ.
