Memorial service for Sheila Joan Yoder, age 70, of Sulphur Springs, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas with Reverend Cody Ala Rushing officiating.
Angels came to visit a beautiful person on January 3, 2025. Together, they escorted Sheila Joan Waites Yoder to God’s waiting arms. Sheila was born in Brownwood, TX, grew up in San Angelo, TX, and graduated from San Angelo Central High School. Sheila was a proud daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and Registered Nurse. She married David Yoder in 1975 and became a part of the US Navy family. She held what is called “the most difficult job in the Navy”: a Navy wife. As a family, they served in San Angelo; Athens, Greece; and Fort Meade, MD. They also lived in Saudi Arabia, Virginia Beach, VA; and Sterling, VA.
Sheila graduated from nursing school later in life and served others for 20 years in pediatric, cardiac, oncology, general practice and home health specialties. After retiring in 2013, Sheila and David moved to Springs, PA where they lived for nine years before returning to her native Texas.
Sheila loved to travel and to fish. She spent many nights on a fishing pier watching the sun rise trying to catch “just one more”. As “snowbirds” Sheila and David traveled to Phoenix, south Florida, south Texas, and Niagara Falls. She was an avid crafter, amateur painter, seamstress, gardener, and collector. More than just about anything else, Sheila loved spoiling her grandkids and great-grandkids. Her wide smile lit up any room she entered and was said to give great hugs.
Sheila is survived by her mother, Mary Waites; her sister, Penny Hopper; sons Kristopher and Danny; and daughter, Teri Rhodes; plus many cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her father, Millard Waites.
Anyone who ever knew Sheila knows that she was full of light and love. Her greatest love was for her Heavenly Father. As a born-again Christian, Sheila is resting comfortably in Heaven without pain or sadness. Even though she will be sorely missed, we have the promise that we will see her again. If anyone would like to honor Sheila’s memory, please make a donation to your favorite charity in her name. RIP
