Funeral service for Shirley Edington, age 96, of Brashear, Texas, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Aaron Sanders officiating. Private family interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery, with Aaron Sanders, Tommy Sanders, Ty Sanders, Seth Hunt, and Johnathan Tingle serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Edington passed away at Hopkins Court in Sulphur Springs, Texas, on Saturday, August 2, 2025.
Shirley Edington was born on June 26, 1929, in McClain County, Oklahoma, to Marshall and Connie Agnes (Carden) Dragoo. She married Calvin Edington on January 13, 1948, in Dallas, Texas. She made her career as a phone operator working for Southwestern Bell. She was a proud member of the First Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher. She was known to have a servant’s heart and volunteered for multiple church events throughout the years including serving in the Wednesday night kitchen for over 30 years. Shirley also volunteered for Meal-A-Day for over 15 years and won their Volunteer of the Year award in 2018.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Barbara Sanders and husband, Tommy of Brashear, Texas, and Cheryl Stewart of Sulphur Springs, Texas; grandchildren, Aaron Sanders and wife, Jamie, Rachel Kistler, Carley Hunt and husband, Seth, and Megan Tingle and husband, Johnathan; great grandchildren, Sydney Sanders, Ty Sanders, Calley Sanders, Katelyn Kistler, Jude Hunt, Eden Hunt, ElLee Hunt, and Madelynn Tingle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Edington; her parents, Marshall and Agnes Dragoo; sisters, Lorraine Grice, Marilyn Womack, and Joyce Currnutt; brothers, Alton Dragoo and Stanley Dragoo.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to Texans on Mission, at 5351 Catron Drive, Dallas, Texas 75227.
