Timothy Maurice Kelty was born on September 29, 1937, in Sulphur Springs to Maurice and Odene (Nolen) Kelty. He married Nita Goldsmith at First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs on September 29, 1990. Tim graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas State College in 1960, majoring in history, with a minor in music. He taught at Sulphur Springs ISD from 1960-1964, and many stories are still shared by his former students today. An avid lover of music, he served many churches through the years, leading and assisting in music ministry, including Tabernacle Baptist Church of Pickton, and First Baptist Churches in Cooper, Mt. Vernon, Winnsboro, and Sulphur Springs. He was a long-time member of and carried a huge heart for First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs.

Tim accumulated a long list of civic, business, and service accomplishments over his career. He formed and owned several businesses, including Timko Konstruction and Hometown Real Estate. He has been in the real estate business since 1967. He served on many boards over the years, including Guaranty Bank and Trust and the Hopkins County Memorial Hospital District Board. He was chosen as Hopkins County’s Citizen of the Year in 2017 and selected as a Distinguished Alumni by Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2022.

Tim is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Nita, and children Karol Ann DeLong (Chris), Thomas Kelty (Debbie), Greg Martin (Allison), Brad Martin (Kristen), and Leah Conner (Tod). He is also survived by his grandchildren, who were sources of great pride, and if you knew him, you surely heard about them all: Zac Kelty, Makenzie Glenn (Jared), Marissa Kelty, Chaney Lynd (Sam), Drew DeLong, Mariah Kelty, Makenna Kelty, Miley Kelty, Sloane Martin (Tanner), Spencer Clarac (Lee), Skyler Irby (Dalton), Emily Martin (Mickie), Mallory Isham (Blake), Abbey Martin, Sadie Conner, Kelty Conner, Lucy Conner, and Mac Conner.
