Tommy Childs

Graveside service for Tommy Childs, age 86, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Algoma North Cemetery in Marshall, Texas with Jason Childs, Zane Childs, Mason Myhre, Don Brock, Marty Fite, and Tracy Lee serving as pallbearers, and Jimmy Dale Fite, Ray Williams, Billy Joe Dorner, and Cody McCauley serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Mr. Childs passed away at Christus Mother Frances in Sulphur Springs, Texas, on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Tommy Childs was born on February 19, 1940, in Hallsville, Texas, to Chester and Lucille (Burton) Childs. He married Shirley (Waskom) Childs in Oklahoma on September 6, 1956. Tommy dedicated 47 years of service as a maintenance engineer with Borden's. In 1989, he transferred to Sulphur Springs, where he later retired and embraced a new chapter of life, spending his days baling hay and enjoying the work he loved. At the age of 12, Tommy accepted Christ and was baptized at Baptist Chapel, where his brother faithfully served as pastor. He was a devoted man of faith and an avid hunter and fisherman who found great joy in the outdoors, cherishing the time spent in God's creation with family and friends.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Shirley Childs of Sulphur Springs, Texas; son, Gene Childs and wife Aimee of Marshall, Texas; grandchildren, Jason Childs, Amanda Plemmons, Megan Childs, and Madie Childs; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Willard Bryan Childs; daughter, Wendy Childs; grandson, Zachery Blake Klemptner; brother, Robert Childs; and sister, Evelyn Brock.
