Funeral services for Velma Skelton, 91 of Sulphur Springs will be 11:00 am, Friday, October 8, 2010 at Murray-Orwosky Chapel with Rev. Gary Jordan officiating. Interment will follow in the Martin Springs Cemetery with Mike Skelton, Cody Skelton, Jake Mannis, Jeff Mannis, DeLayne Dillard, Tony Tanton and Adam Seabrook serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be George Singleton, Wayne Allen, Roy Smith, Ronny Spence and Shawn White. Visitation will be 6 till 8 pm Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Velma Pauline Skelton passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. She was born on June 23, 1919 in Plain Dealing, LA the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Ida Pearl McDaniel Tanton. Velma married F.B. "Red" Skelton in Sulphur Springs on February 2, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1994. She was member of the Lake Highlands Baptist Church.
Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, John D. & Jo Ann Skelton of Winnsboro, William B. & Florine Skelton of Dallas, and Jimmy R. & Frances Skelton of Sulphur Springs; sisters, Valine Dillard of Sulphur Springs, and Jean Builte of Mt Veron; brothers, Norwood L. Tanton of Sulphur Springs, Robert Davis Tanton of Grants, NM, and Milus J. Tanton of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Mitzi Spence, Patricia Skelton, Marie Seabrook, Pam Mannis, and Mike Skelton; great grandchildren, Rhonda Spence, Candace White, Victoria Seabrook, Olivia Seabrook, Adam Seabrook, Jake Mannis, Kara Mannis and Jessie Mannis; four great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, parents, two brothers, Troy Tanton, Ned Tanton and sister, Virgina Ann Hicks.
